The project has ultimately taken a lot more time to finish. Unexpectedly I slept through all of Saturday, leaving only Sunday as a day for work. Because of lack of time, I had to change my venue for the project from tri-fold board and animap, to a simple prezi. Lack of sleep and exhaustion have also developed into a cold so I don't think I will be able to present this project on its due date, because I probably won't be in school. However, I am finished and happy for that fact. Overall I do not think I learned as much in the project as I could have if I had learned this information in a traditional class setting, and find that many of the components of this project have actually inhibited my learning experience (the blogging took up a large chunk of time). My Project will consist of three smaller prezi slides with brief information behind my objectives, followed by three small prezi slides connecting the objectives to my essential question. The end of my presentation will consist of a large prezi slide describing the specifics of my essential question that are both related to my objectives and not as directly. I plan to show how some wartime inventions led to civilian uses that identified america as a first-world country, how the U.S. had a big role in post-war efforts to protect human rights, and how its addition to the allies contributed to the end of the war. In the essential question slides I plan to highlight how american exports gave the U.S. great economic standing in the world, and site different sources to show this. I plan to show how the U.S. was seen as a nation with great power also through its involvement in the Cold War.

A Little Too Much
Process:
By using wikipedia as an introduction to information I have been able to find different directions to head with each objective. I did a lot of research about the U.S. and its alliances recently, and affirmed the idea that I had that the U.S. was one of the big "super" powers in the war. The United States was one of the allied powers during the war joining France, Poland, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Belgium, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, Ehteopia, Greece, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, and Yugoslavia. The United States was one of the "BIG THREE" (British Commonwealth, the Soviet Union, and the United States of America), and contributed greatly to the war, even though the entry into the war was delayed because of the lack of a reason to enter (until Pearl Harbor). I also researched many wartime inventions from the United States that I feel showed its power. Many of our advancements of technology in the war contributed to consumer items that only first world countries would use (the microwave).
Problems/Concerns:
.Even though I did find a lot of information about various aspects of my essential question and objectives, I feel like I might not be able to finish this project this weekend with a full 8 hours of sleep a night, especially because I have to go to Relay for Life, and I have a soccer game.
.I feel like finishing this project so early, and having to do all these extra things like blog and comment on other blogs has really detracted from my learning experience. I would have learned more information about this time period if I had learned it in a traditional learning style with a textbook, notes, some lectures, and then maybe a project.
.I am worried about how in depth the information asside from the things I present has to be. Whether it has to be something really in depth like an essay about each topic, or just a list of different ways that the U.S. emerged as a "super power."

Further Progress
The Process:
I've made a lot of progress in the last class period, and at home. As far as the understanding of my project topic, and gathering historical facts, Im slowly getting all of the things I need. I found a really useful graph of the Dow jones industrial average from 1940-1960. I think it is a primary source that perfectly shows the rise of the United States as a super power after WWII. I provided a picture of the graph in this post.
Because one of my objectives is evaluating organizations established for the protection of human rights, I found various international organizations established after WWII that exemplify the changing outreach to those in need. After the atrocities committed by Germans in Europe, countries were quick to establish organizations, such as the UN, that protected human rights. Some of the earliest accomplishments of these organizations, such as the Declaration of Human Rights (by UN), displayed growing assistance for people deprived of rights. Besides the UN, I am also looking into NATO and the Warsaw Pact. I plan to connect this objective to my essential question by showing the connection between the United States and the establishment of some of these organizations. In the case of the UN, the United States created some of the fundamental principles (our president coined the term united nations). The first official gathering of the organization was held in San Francisco , here in the United States.
In addition to the research written above, I have done some research on different interesting project ideas. Because I want to combine both media and drawn out work, I have yet to decide on a definitive project presentation style. However I know I will definitely be using an animap and a trifold board together somehow.
Problems:
.I am having trouble finding a way to connect all of my objectives to my essential question. Even though I tried to find objectives that would sort of fit my essential question, not all of them relate as nicely as I thought I might be able to accomplish. Even from such a wide selection, I feel that it would be hard to switch my objectives and effectively connect them, so I'm stuck.
.I am worried about making my project creative enough because I don't have a clear definition of what creativity is in terms of this course.
Questions:
1. Can we make our own objectives for this project?

The Start of Something New
My Project Process:
I've started preliminary research for my project and have decided to prove how America became a super power through examples of the economic, technological, and political advancements of the U.S. I plan to use an animap to show change over time in international relations. I also plan to use numerous graphs, specifically those of stock market trends, to demonstrate economic advancement. I want to use both technology and hand-ons activities to display my information at the end of this project.
As one of the examples of America as a super power I have identified the post-war economic boom. I plan to use the events surrounding this "boom" to prove my point economically.
Problems:
.I want to understand more facts and reasoning behind the history, rather than blogging, multimedia, and technology. I already have to utilize some of these skills in projects for other courses, and feel as though the emphasis on usage of these materials does not assist me in my understanding of U.S. history. In previous history courses I have learned more history with traditional teaching methods that incorporated some technology, but focused on getting a firm foundation in the subject matter, before allowing the students to build upon it through independent research and projects. I feel that the former approach is better suited to my understanding of the subject matter, which in turn translates to my knowledge of these topics upon completion of the course.
.I do not understand what is to be gained from blogging and commenting on other blogs, and would like to understand how it will help me learn details about history and information that will facilitate the smooth completion of my project.
Questions:
1. How long does each blog post need to be?
2. Out of how many points will the blog posts be graded?
3. How will these projects be presented?
4. Is there a time limit on the presentation?
5. How detailed does the information for the project have to be?
6. I am confused about how we are to incorporate information into the project (on the project paper it is written that we should avoid using just facts).
